OSI Group is an Aurora-based food processing firm with a global presence and significant success in all the major economies. The company achieved the global leadership position of the industry by displaying innovation in its all processes. The visionary leadership of the food processor helped it to shift its strategies on time to ensure its growth never slowed. It should be noted that the company has started its operations in 1909, and it was highly restrictive in its initial years of business. Until the 1970s, the company operated as supplier only to McDonald’s.
During the 1970s, Sheldon Lavin, the current CEO and Chairman of the firm, joined the company and forced it to focus on other business opportunities as well. From the 1980s, the company went for global expansion plans started operations in all the major continents including Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia. In the later years, OSI Group started focusing on acquisitions and completed a number of them that gave significant market expansion and diversified product services. It completed a number of important acquisitions in 2016 and, it includes food processing plant acquisition, business or brand acquisition, and more.
In the early months of 2016, it acquired a production plant of Tyson in Chicago for an amount of $7.4 million. The plant that is made in an area of 200,000 square feet ensured smooth supply of products and added storage space. OSI Group acquired Baho Food, a Dutch-based food processor, in the same year, and that gave a significant presence of OSI in Europe, especially in Netherlands and Germany. It also acquired Flagship Europe, a U.K.-based food supplier that sells sauces, frozen poultry, sous vide items, and Oliver James pies throughout Europe. This acquisition helped the firm to expand its offerings and improve presence across Europe.
Currently, OSI Group has at least 65 facilities spread across 17 countries, and it supplies various processed food products to all the major fast-food chains in the world, including Subway, Papa John’s Pizza, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, and more. The product lines of the group include bacon, meat patties, pizza, fish, hot dogs, poultry, pork, dough, and vegetable products.
