UNHCR was founded in 1950 to help Europeans who had been displaced from their homes in the Second World War. Today, the organization leads in activities that directly influence the livelihood of immigrants throughout the world.
UNHCR works with governments to honor migrants` rights. The organization primary objective is to ensure every migrant can find a safe refuge and asylum in another country. UNHCR has dedicated employees in more than 130 countries. The organization`s personnel operate from remote areas to capitals.
Larking and Lacey Frontera Fund
Lacey and Larkin are brave and generous reporters. They are the co-founders of Phoenix New Times and Village Voice Media. Larking and Lacey pledged to fund organizations that advocate for human, civil and migrants` rights. The money, $3.75 million, was a settlement of their arrest.
Larkin and Lacey were arrested and jailed by Sherriff Joe Arpaio in the middle of the night. They had revealed a grand jury proceeding, that involved an article they had written about the Sherriff. Larking and Lacey sued the county based on the First Amendment rights. The case prevailed for the 9th circuit in the U.S. Court of Appeals.
