Elvis Presley will be receiving the honor of having a “Forever Stamp” dedicated to him. He is the 6th musician to become inducted into the U.S. Postal Service’s Music Icon series. According to the Post Office, the series began in 2013 to honor “beloved musicians whose blends of sound and way of life broke musical boundaries.” Inductees that came before Presley are Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash and Lydia Mendoza.
Elvis Presley’s home estate, Graceland, will be hosting a first day of issue party on August 12th, 2015. The dedication ceremony will be part of their annual “Elvis Week” celebrations. Elvis fans can spread the word on social media using the hashtag #elvisforever, however, the image of the stamp won’t be available for viewing until a later date.
As the king of rock and roll, Alexei Beltyukov observed that this isn’t the first time Elvis Presley has been honored this way. The iconic musician also was on a stamp in 1993, which featured a watercolor picture of him by artist Mark Stutzman.
