End Citizens United recently announced their endorsement of Doug Jones for US Senate. Jones, who is a former US attorney, will run against Roy Moore in the Alabama special elections, which are scheduled to be held on December 12, 2017. These elections are taking place because Jeff Sessions, who held the position, was appointed as the US Attorney General.
ECU described Roy Moore as an extremist with a racist whose agendas are bigote, and one who will support the system in Washington, which, they think, is corrupt rigged. They are of the view that his extreme ideology goes against America’s value and those of Alabama.
They feel that, instead of prioritizing Alabama politics in Washington, Moore will give Big Money special interests. They are also of the opinion that Moore has had bad history with Alabamians, where he has, in the past, embarrassed them and, on top of that, paid himself more than one million dollars from a charity fund which he was in charge of. They feel that Doug is a man of integrity, has experience as a prosecutor and will take the same approach, of defending what is right, at the Congress and better the lives of Americans as a whole.
According to Doug Jones, for the broken system to be amended, the country needs reforms that will prioritize the every-day Alabamians instead of those that prioritize deep pockets. ECU claims that Moore is associated with special interest donors. He even has the support of the Senate Leadership Fund and his campaign is being supported by, according to ECU, secretive dark money organizations, for example, Public Advocate, a known radical anti-LGBT group.
When Moore was a judge, he was suspended and finally removed from office for prioritizing his personal opinions over the rule of law. He was of the idea that President Obama was not born in America and felt that the 9/11 attack was a punishment to the American people.
Jones, on the other hand, used his position as a US attorney to bring the individuals who were involved with the Street Baptism Church bombing to justice. The ECU feels that he is passionate about getting rid of Big Money in the political scene and giving those who have been shut out of the process a voice.
ECU describes itself as an organization which is dedicated to electing members who will pass meaningful campaign finance reforms in Congress, a move which will eliminate unlimited, undisclosed money from our political system. The group was established in 2015, is funded by grassroots donors and aims at showing the elected officials, voters, officials and the press that grassroots are pushing back against the undermining of campaign finance laws. It currently has over three million members.
