When my team of fugitive hunters gets the call that a suspect is in the area, we have to spring to action immediately. That is the hardest part of our job, having to drop everything and be in position to take down a suspect before anyone else is hurt. This month we got the word that a very violent offender was loose in our city and that he was not going to go peacefully if cornered.
When you are dealing with a fugitive that is new to an area, you know right off the bat that he has no family or friends to rely on, and that he is going to need things like shelter, food, and cash. Every person in our community is at risk, and the only thing we had as a resource was plastering the news outlets with his details to try and get assistance from the public. We didn’t realize we had another resource that would prove to be even more valuable.
Securus Technologies installed a call monitoring system in the local prison, and it was used to listen more intently to when the inmates are talking on the phones with people on the outside. The new LBS software is capable of doing the work of a team of corrections officers, and we didn’t realize exactly how resourceful it could be until one of the officers called us in to check it out.
The reason we were notified, one of the inmates was talking about meeting up with our suspect upon his release, and they were going to hunker down until the heat died sown. The person on the phone apparently was going to provide them a safe house, and now we knew. Our team swarmed the location that day, and picked up our fugitive while he was sleeping.
